Ms. Silag's Multicultural & Global Literature Reading Challenge
for Grades 3, 4 & 5
I am so excited about this year's Library Reading Challenge! I am challenging MERSD's Elementary students to expand their horizons with a host of different stories and genres all with a focus on multiculturalism and global literature. I have changed the challenge a bit from years past to simplify it during these crazy, COVID times when books are harder to get in your hands!
The challenge comes in two parts:
Part One: This part is mandatory so YES, you MUST take the Challenge! Every student in grade 3, 4 and 5 is expected to make an effort to meet our goals. I am CONFIDENT that all of our MERSD elementary students can do it!
Part Two: This part is voluntary. Students can continue to make the effort toward the second goal if they choose to and will receive a second prize.
Challenge For Grades 4 & 5:
Part 1 - *Read 4 Multicultural/Global Titles and LOG the Titles on our Google Classroom Log by January 4th – Receive a Prize!
Part 2 - *Read a Total of 10 Multicultural/Global Titles And LOG the Titles by the week of June 7th – Receive a 2nd Prize!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Challenge For Grade 3:
Part 1 - *Read 3 Multicultural/Global Titles And LOG the Titles on our Google Classroom by the week of January 4th – Receive a Prize!
Part 2 - *Read a Total of 10 Multicultural/Global Titles And LOG The Titles by the week of June 7th – Receive a 2nd Prize!
Students MUST note Book Title, Author, and "Culture" (meaning what makes the book Multicultural or Global Literature.) Your Reading Log will be maintained on Google Classroom so you can add books to your log as you read them! Add to the log as soon as you complete a book so you don't forget! Please do not post books you "plan" to read until you have actually read them;)
ANY GENRE and READING LEVEL IS ALLOWED – biographies, picture books, graphic novels, non fiction, fiction, poetry, wordless picture books, anything as long as its multicultural or global literature....
